Top hiking tip for hot summer days – the enchanting Gruttenhütte circular hike

We, the team at Aparthotel Bergland, your vacation apartment in Söll, would like to introduce you to an enchanting circular hike with a unique view of the impressive massif of the Wilder Kaiser mountains! Don’t forget your cell phone: there are great photo opportunities here! And some cozy huts invite tired hikers to stop for a break and recharge their batteries!

This varied tour is considered moderately difficult. It leads over forest, woodland and meadow paths, but also over steep paths and therefore requires good surefootedness and a head for heights for the “Klamml”!

Hiking tip circular hike Gruttenhütte

The “hard facts”

We start with some important information about this hike:

  • The tour covers a distance of 14 kilometers.
  • There are 890 meters of altitude to overcome.
  • The highest point of the hiking route – the Gruttenhütte – is at 1,620 m.
  • As the pure walking time is around 6 hours – start your hike in good time!
  • Sturdy hiking boots with a good profile and breathable hiking clothing are a must!
  • Hiking poles are recommended for even more safety!

Through the forest and across meadows towards the Wilder Kaiser

You start your mountain tour at the Going information office and follow the Goinger Hausbach stream to the Raiffeisenbank. Turn left here, cross the underpass and follow Schwendterweg to the left until you reach the farmhouses. Here you are on a sunny plateau that offers you a magnificent view of the Kaiser Mountains! Now follow the path – always towards the Wilder Kaiser! At the next junction, turn left to the Tannbichl parking lot, pass the barrier and continue along the forest road – step by step towards the imposing mountain world. Eventually you will pass a fountain trough fed by the Wilder Kaiser springs and finally reach a path through the forest.

Don’t forget: a well-deserved break is part of the mountain fun!

Shortly before the Gaudeamushütte, you will reach a clearing from where you can admire the Kaiser Mountains in all their majestic splendor! Plan a stop at the Gaudeamushütte and fortify yourself with a few Tyrolean delicacies and homemade cakes!

Ready for the final ascent?

Now comes the last stage of your tour – the ascent via the “Klammlweg” to the highest hut: the Gruttenhütte. Adventurers beware: The Klammlweg is a narrow path – there are rope-secured passages here! There is also a ladder about 2 meters long and some iron clamps to master! If you choose this route, you must be free from giddiness and sure-footed!

From the rustic mountain hut, situated on a rocky ridge, you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the Kaiser massif and the Tyrolean mountains! On a clear day, you can even see the Großglockner and the Großvenediger!

Time for the descent

If you are now making your way back, start in the direction of Wochenbrunner Alm. Before you reach the forest path, you have to cross a few scree fields. The next highlight is a game reserve. Take a little time to observe, perhaps you will discover some shy forest dwellers! The path now continues downhill towards the former Brennhütte and on through the forest to the Blattlkapelle chapel. Now turn right again, past the Blattlbauern to the Blattlhof, where you will reach the other side of the road through the underpass. The last few meters, the Auweg, you are accompanied by the Goinger Hausbach and finally you reach the starting point of your hike.

Our tip for those who are not quite so adventurous:

A hiking trail also leads from the Wochenbrunner Alm up to the Gruttenhütte. You can reach this magnificent viewpoint without a via ferrata.

Good to know:

Gruttenhütte: open from Whitsun to mid-October

Gaudeamushütte: open from May to mid-October

Wochenbrunner Alm: open all year round
